Hanging a Spreader Bar Hammock
To hang hammocks with spreader bars (resort hammocks) like the photo, you should use a hanging distance similar, or just slightly less than the length of your hammock (from loop to loop). For example if the total length of your spreader bar hammock is 3.70 m, your hanging distance will be around 3.60m to 3.70m. If your space is wider, just adjust your chosen accessory straps, ropes or chains to reach the loops of your hammock.
Resort hammocks are not hung as loose as traditional hammocks, they should rather be hung quite tight and flat to assist comfort. As a result, spreader-bar hammocks will also sit naturally higher than traditional hammocks, when not occupied. Spreader bar hammocks are usually hung around 1.20m to 1.50m off the ground.
Spreader bar hammocks, being flatter and hung more tightly, tend to be less stable than traditional hammocks and can topple over a lot easier, so care should be taken when entering and exiting these hammocks. Shuffle you feet towards the centre-point beneath the hammock and sit slowly, aiming for the centre of the bed, then lie flat and relax.
Below is a guide on our recommendations for what accessories to use for each type of hammock hang. These are only guides and you can always use other accessories or even your own DIY parts.
